Artwork Generation
This section of the platform is for configuring your main artwork settings.
What is Artwork Generation?
Artwork Generation is a group of primary settings that defines the format of generated artwork files when a Product is ordered. As these settings are defined at Company level, by default they apply to all Products in the Catalog that are associated with the Company.
What settings are available?
Several settings are available via dropdown menus and enable/disable toggles:
Artwork Output Types
Several Output Types are available to select, providing solutions for various fulfilment requirements including digital print, engraving, cutting and embroidery.
- Raster: Generates raster Artwork and supports multiple formats
- Vector: Generates Vector Artwork in PDF format
- Photo Prints: Specialist output type used only with a custom Smartlink solution
- Embroidery: Generates embroidery Artwork
- From Artwork Slot: Bypasses Artwork Generation process and passes the artwork file 'verbatim'.

Create Raster PDF Using JPEGs
Enables JPEG compression when generating Raster PDFs to reduce file sizes.
Note: This option is only suitable when using Raster output type and PDF format
Determine Whether Print Layouts are User Populated
This option will ensure the system calculates whether or not a print layout has any user provided content in the same way the platform does this for Print Area artwork. For example, with this set it means for users of QuickP the auto cropping feature will not include blank merged outputs which will not be visible within the Printing Station, making the process quicker and more efficient.
Please note this option is enabled by default on all companies made after March 2023, so anything made before this time will need to be updated if required. Your Implementation Specialist will be able to help you to see whether or not your historical companies require this being enabled,
Generate Snapshots
Create a preview image of the generated print job, which is then passed with the order.
Note: This is useful when passing textual orders where there is no live preview / Smartlink being used
Raster CMYK ICC Profile / Raster RGB ICC Profile
Raster Artwork files generated by the system do not have an embedded ICC colour profile; this is usually handled by RIP software during production.
If required, you can specify an ICC colour profile to control the colour mode conversion from RGB to CMYK.
Due to how ICC profiles work, it is necessary to set two profiles.
- The RGB profile tells the system how to convert the standard RGB into the intermediate Profile Connection Space (PCS)
- The CMYK profile then tells the system how to convert from PCS to CMYK.

Skip Disabled Surfaces
By default, any configured Print Areas produce an output artwork file automatically. This option stops artwork files being generated for Print Areas that have not been interacted with / populated by the end user.
Use Private Generated Artwork URLs
Setting this, on the company that owns print jobs, it will generate artwork URLS using S3 Presigned structure which are more secure and have an expiry. These links are generated when integrations run and will expire 12 hours after generation.
Use Proxy For External URL Items
If using an external artwork solution to batch orders via Production Jobs, it may be necessary to use a proxy when downloading the files (eg if the external artwork is IP whitelisted).
Version
Refers to the artwork generation version being used. Version 2 is default.
