Categories

This section of the platform is for adding and managing Categories. Platform users can create their own Categories and sub-categories, of which they will have full edit access to.

What is a Category?
Category is a folder location which is used to store / group Products together. Every Product within the Catalog exists within 1 or multiple Categories, making them an essential element for managing products effectively.

How to change View Mode
By default, Categories are listed by name.

View Modes are available;
  1. List View (default): A scrollable list with a thumbnail and columns of associated information. This view is used for editing / managing existing Categories

ID: Unique platform Category ID
Name: Name of the Category
Parent: Associated parent folder path

  1. Tree View: A cascading view of the Categories and associated sub-category structure. This view if used for adding new Categories.
How to Search
By default, Categories appear in an unfiltered list, which offers a search function.

Search: The Search field can be used to find specific Category name:

How to Delete Categories
The trash can option can be found against every category you can see within the list view. You simply press the delete button a delete your category.
Please note, to delete a category the category in question must be clear of all products and any sub categories should be cleared and deleted first
Only delete categories if you absolutely have to get them removed.

Managing Categories
Each listed row can be clicked to open individual Category settings where changes can be made.
There are many ways to manage your categories and these range from setting images, localisation and enabling some of our product integrations.

Setting images on Categories
To set a thumbnail against your category use the "Upload File" option. Images must be PNG format and should be square in shape.

Setting localization on Categories
You can add localization against your product categories, this has been added to ensure for anyone around the world can set a unique category name based on the region they are located in. Please note this is optional and not a requirement of all categories.

Setting product Integrations on Categories

Integrations can be enabled against individual Categories to pull products and share product category data with a set of different integrators. You can see the Generic API example below.

All Product Integrations offer help text when setting them up.

Adding Categories

To add a new Category, you must;
  1. Enable the "Tree View"
  2. Use the dropdown arrows to identify the target location
  3. Right click the Category, and select 'Create Subcategory'
  4. Add a relevant Name
Note: Any newly added Categories must first be indexed by the system, so cannot be searched / used in Catalog for several minutes.
